13/01/2012 - Paper: The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

There is a new paper by Nick Bostrom and Eliezer Yudkowsky on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence. It will appear in the Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence:

The possibility of creating thinking machines raises a host of ethical issues.  These
questions relate both to ensuring that such machines do not harm humans and other
morally relevant beings, and to the moral status of the machines themselves.  The first
section discusses issues that may arise in the near future of AI.  The second section
outlines challenges for ensuring that AI operates safely as it approaches humans in its
intelligence.  The third section outlines how we might assess whether, and in what
circumstances, AIs themselves have moral status.  In the fourth section, we consider
how AIs might differ from humans in certain basic respects relevant to our ethical
assessment of them.  The final section addresses the issues of creating AIs more
intelligent than human, and ensuring that they use their advanced intelligence for
good rather than ill.

This paper serves as a good introduction to the problem of Friendly AI.

18/11/2011 - Draft of Muehlhauser & Helm, ‘The Singularity and Machine Ethics’

Louie Helm and Luke Muehlhauser, Singularity Institute staff, are sharing a draft of their chapter submission to The Singularity Hypothesis edited volume for feedback:

The Singularity and Machine Ethics

Abstract: Many researchers have argued that a self-improving artificial intelligence (AI) could become so vastly more powerful than humans that we would not be able to stop it from achieving its goals. If so, and if the AI’s goals differ from ours, then this could be disastrous for humans. One proposed solution is to program the AI’s goal system to want what we want before the AI self-improves beyond our capacity to control it. Unfortunately, it is difficult to specify what we want. After a brief digression concerning human intuitions about intelligence, we offer a series of “intuition pumps” in moral philosophy for our conclusion that human values are complex and difficult to specify. We then survey the evidence from the psychology of motivation, moral psychology, and neuroeconomics that supports our position. We conclude by recommending ideal preference theories of value as a promising approach for developing a machine ethics suitable for navigating the Singularity.

11/08/2011 - Complex Value Systems are Required to Realize Valuable Futures

A new paper by Eliezer Yudkowsky is online at our publications page, “Complex Value Systems are Required to Realize Valuable Futures”. This paper was presented at the recent Fourth Conference on Artificial General Intelligence, held at Google HQ in Mountain View.

Abstract: A common reaction to first encountering the problem statement of Friendly AI (”Ensure that the creation of a generally intelligent, self-improving, eventually superintelligent system realizes a positive outcome”) is to propose a single moral value which allegedly suffices; or to reject the problem by replying that “constraining” our creations is undesirable or unnecessary. This paper makes the case that a criterion for describing a “positive outcome”, despite the shortness of the English phrase, contains considerable complexity hidden from us by our own thought processes, which only search positive-value parts of the action space, and implicitly think as if code is interpreted by an anthropomorphic ghost-in-the-machine. Abandoning inheritance from human value (at least as a basis for renormalizing to reflective equilibria) will yield futures worthless even from the standpoint of AGI researchers who consider themselves to have cosmopolitan values not tied to the exact forms or desires of humanity.

Keywords: Friendly AI, machine ethics, anthropomorphism

15/12/2010 - Robot Technique Design

robot technique design Robot Technique Design

Since robot becomes the most favorite one in technology development. It is used to support the process of the technology development. many people can produce the robot but not all people know well the way in producing the robot. The robot must be made with good prediction of navigation and the process of counting must be careful and done in the right way.

There are some techniques that support the easier way in designing robot. There are determining the form of the robot and the kind of it. Do not forget to determine the form or the types of it. as the makes we have to follow the rule.  We also have to consider the basic. The working must be based on static object or move (this basic goes to the object or to avoid the object. It must be based on vision, proximity and so on.  the design must be made based on the order which includes on trajecton references. For the robot that use hands must be use manipulator to control the hands move.

The designing must follow the trajektori, it also must follow the object which has the base on vision, proximity, and so on. You have to take, hold, lift, move, control, and produce the object.

06/12/2010 - Robot is an Icon of Technology

robot technology 300x230 Robot is an Icon of Technology

There are many things that you can judge as the icon of the something. In technology, especially, robot has become the icon of the improving technology. The main reason for making robot as the technology icon or symbol is because in creating robot, it consists of many scientist studies which are completing each other.

All of the science elements are combined in order to create the best quality robot. The elements of studies are like Electronic, Mechanics, Kinematics, Dynamics and many more. So, a robot must contain many elements which supporting each other. A scientist will be more sophisticated by technology’s support. When all has use the technological standardization, it will be useful for the development of the next generation.

In order helping human, robot are created to support all the things. People must be proud of this technology icon, but remember that robot is just helping, but you are the leader. Be wise with robot. As the icon of technology development, Robot nowadays has been creating with variated looks, color, improvement, their functions and other elements inside and outside. All of these robots may have different function because they are created with specific purposes that many human needs in their life.

30/11/2010 - The Robotic Days

robotics day The Robotic Days

People now live in the world which is fulfilled by the technology. The development and the increasing of technology nowadays has support the human’s activities. But not all of the technologies are really helpful. Some of it can be damage human life also. It is all depending on human’s perspective of the technology’s development. Some of people thinks that it is really helpful but some people may thinks that this is dangerous because can give the bad impact.

The improvement of technology must be given to the kids or students earlier. It is kind of prevention in order to prepare them to the future. Some schools, especially Senior High School has created the activity to learn and creative with technology. One of it is the robotics days. It means the day for create and increasing knowledge about robot. They will be introduced and guided to practical. Many students are interested with it, especially for boys. Furthermore they can create their own robot.

All of the technology creations basically come from the experiments. Students are used to learn more and more. The result is they have become more creative and innovative. By their basic knowledge and the training in that day, they can make something. It is very useful.

28/11/2010 - The Robot Phenomena

robot phenomena 300x198 The Robot Phenomena

Robotics is a part of technology that catches a lot of consumers. The consumer consists of people who want to try to make or to enjoy this kind of robot. Many phenomena that consist of this kind of products that is very interesting. Many increasing phenomenon happens including the production process of this products.

One of the example is the making of this product in Italy, there is a child who success to make this kind of product. This 15 years old child has planted the robot’s heart and founded in good condition. This child never has serious illness problems that make him feel heart disease. Robot has developed well because there are many kinds of robots that have good quality in its function. Many people can make this robot according to the electro, mechanical, or electro techniques. This strategy can be the basic of the products.

Even now, there are many products that can make robot as toys. These toys are a child game that inspires them to know everything.  Many parents has bought a particular toys for their children including robots, and robots become the most interesting toys for the children that can make them always happy. These robots show that the developing of technology is quite well.

21/11/2010 - The Process of Making Robot

robot building plan The Process of Making Robot

Robotics is an interesting creature that is produced from good technology. However, in making this creature is not simple. There are some parts that are used in making this product. The parts are mechanic, electronic, and programming making. So, the making of robot combines the machine technique, industry technique, electro technique, and informatics technique.

The worker must be consisted of the experts that master those kinds of techniques. The robot draft can be made by aluminum, plastics, and others related material. We have to connect the pointed of the material by aluminum kneel to place the aluminum tightly. Then we have to make sensors to move the robot. We can make the interval sensor by using SRF04. Direct sensor can be made from compass or dinsmore. LM35 can be used to have temperature sensor. Hot sensor can be regulated by UVTron or thermopile. Line Follower Sensor can be made by line follower sensor. Electronic system can be made with PCB design, for example with DXP Altium, making PCB printer with proboard then, rafting the electronic combination.

Then, we have to make the program by algorithm design; it can be used by flow chart to control complex function. Next, we have to make writing program in C language, assembly, basic, language mastering, and then transferring the program to the robot by compiling and downloading.

09/11/2010 - Some Negatives Issue about Robot

robot disadvantages Some Negatives Issue about Robot

Discussing about Robot must be amazing and very interested. Many countries have tried to create their experiment in creating Robot. But, many common people are still confuse about the robot, the content, applications, material and all of the information that useful to get closer to robot. They can move, walk, run; even does something depend on the direction. This is the amazing supporting technology in the world.

Robots in one of the technology term to get closer to the improvement future. Many people think that robot must be the increasing of technology which can prevent someone to do something or act. The bad effect is the decrease of human resource in this world seems like revolution. The negative opinion is that Robot is the main caused the loss of worker or laborer’s job. It seems an analogy by some people. Actually, it is depend on how human use this creation without inflict a financial loss of human.

For example the painter will loss his job if there is a robot who can paint better or another simple case of human’s job which robot can displaced. Basically, robot is not a leader of human. They are created to help people. So, people must realize that.

03/11/2010 - Robot Chef Helps People in Cooking

Japanese really take advantage of fobot to assist their work. This time a robot chef in action shows skill in cooking. Watch video below:

Japan has a lot of use robots for everyday purposes such as cleaning, food waitress in a restaurant, ramen maker, tour guide, bee repellent, assist children in learning, etc.

29/10/2010 - Robot for Modern Living

Everyday is the improvement and it happens every time. It is not only the improvement of style or behavior but also the improvement of technology. As you know, people can not be separated from technology nowadays. It seems technology has become the crucial needs for the modern lifestyle. Lifestyle must be changed by the time. Technology is appeared to accompany and support human living.

Mostly people in the past must do their activities by their own hand or body. it must needs much effort to do something, like washing, cleaning or taking care of their house. It looks simple but it must be difficult. by the time there must be a servant who will be paid to handle all of your house’s problems beginning from sweeping, washing and so on. Now, as the modern people who always use the technology’s products, you can use robot to help you to handle your activity.

It must be amazing when all of your activities can be handled by robot. it must be weird for the first time ti use robot’s service, but you must be interesting with it. As the human creation of course robot has many weaknesses. But you can try it for your modern living.

28/10/2010 - The Working Plan in Making Robot

build a robot 300x225 The Working Plan in Making Robot

Robotics is the aspects that always have a good chance in developing process. It gives a particular chance from some people who like to develop things related to technical system. Since, it can be used to work or to help human’s duty, it is more interesting. There are a control system in making a robot such as on-off, PID, and the implementation of staff computing.

The control system of robot depends on kinds of robot that we want to make. This system is used to regulate navigation of robot. These all system support each other the on-off system is used to control the move or right and left brain, it also helped by PID system to make it smoother. If the data receipt the data more complex, the staff computing can be used to control it.  The plan in making robot including dimension, the prediction of weight and height of the robot, each robot has different shape. Material structure is the ingredients of the material such as from aluminum, wood, or others. the way of robot working, it includes the robot systems, its part of body, and its function. Sensors, it is the tools that will be used by robot.

The mechanic is mechanic system to control the robot’s working. Control method, it is included the microprocessor and diagram system that are the way to control the robot. The last plan is making strategy, this is an optional, it depends on the robot’s duty.
